Who would you want to play a round of golf with if you were about to die? It sounds kind of dreary but the idea is to think of three people you’d want to spend a few hours with before you leave this world. I thought about it for quite some time and wrestled with who I want in my foursome. But here are the three people I’d want my last round of golf to be with:
- Patrick Stewart
- Ben Bernanke
- Bill Gates
I chose these three for very different, but also similar reasons. Patrick Stewart is a well-known stage actor but in the US he’s perhaps best known for his role as Captain Picard on Star Trek. You don’t hear from him much in the popular press, so I don’t really know much about him. But I’d like to learn about him and his world view before I die off. Bernanke himself always speaks in well-prepared, thoughtful sentences. He rarely slips up and doesn’t gaff. Bernanke also knows how important his decisions have been on the world economy and while he may never get the credit he deserves, he saved us from depression. I want to hear what he has to say off the record. Bill Gates needs no introduction of course. His accomplishments are vast and in my opinion he is the most important person from his generation. In addition to changing our lives through technology, he’s now saving lives with his wealth and resources.
All three of these people probably have a lot to say off the record. In Patrick Stewart’s case he simply doesn’t have the audience to speak to. For Bernanke and Gates, they have the platform but choose to be composed to the public.
Who you be in your final foursome? Next week I’ll talk about the first foursome. Those would be the first three people you play with after you’re dead.
