This website was born on the idea that people don’t know enough about money. It’s evolved into an economics for non-economists blog and I like my niche. We talk about personal finance, investing, economics and government. And since I write six days a week I have to have new material all the time. Where do I get this material and how do I stay informed on the go? Below are the five iPhone apps I use regularly to stay on top of my game.

Bloomberg: Long the provider of financial data for finance professionals, Bloomberg as a company branched out into business media. Today, they have a TV channel, a great website, and own other news outlets like BusinessWeek. Their iPhone app provides lots of news, I can follow my favorite stocks with some awesome charts, and check up on more stock markets than I even knew existed.

CNBC Real-Time: I like to make fun of CNBC the channel because they don’t really do much journalism.  They report on the same 50 companies and their shows are mostly terrible.  But their website isn’t bad and their app is quite good, I think.  See, I don’t really use their app for anything except to push breaking news to my iPhone.  When something big or important breaks in news my app pushes the headline right to my home screen.  I then usually look it up on my computer or perhaps even open the app and read the article.

Economy Tracker:  This great little app was just recently released to the wild.  I wanted something like this for so long that I was considering finding a partner to do it myself.  It’s all your favorite economic indicators organized into a calendar.  You can find out what’s coming out this week (GDP, unemployment, housing prices etc) and get links to the releases as well as a built in chart for each release.  It’s awesome.

Financial Analysis Calculator:  This one doesn’t need much explanation.  If you know what a finance calculator is you know what this can do.  Modeled after the TI BA II Plus, my finance calculator of choice, it allows me to do any kind of calculation I might need to do in the absence of a spreadsheet.  From calculating payments to building amortization tables, this baby does it all.

TweetDeck for iPhone – TweetDeck:  Yes, Twitter is one of the apps I can’t live without.  I need this baby to keep in touch with readers, fellow bloggers, and following the news.  I use a few accounts to keep my Weakonomics world separate from my personal world, but that’s just a preference.  If you don’t follow me on Twitter, you should.  I pretty much rock.

The links for each app will all take you to the app store.  And I have an extra bonus for you, all these apps are FREE!  Yes, I’m cheap and even though I’m on my second iPhone with more than 2 years of iPhone usage, I’ve to date only paid for one app.  And yes, all these screenshots were taken straight from my own iPhone to show I actually do use these.  I don’t get paid for plugging these apps, I genually love them.

Whether you use an Android, iPhone, or some other phone, feel free to drop your favorite apps in the comments.
