I heard about this website on NPR. With elections just around the corner and campaign ads forcing themselves on you, you can’t help but appreciate this awesome service.

Let’s say the Congressperson in your area is running a tight campaign with the opponent and the ads are getting rough. The incumbent gets attacked with an ad going against his voting record. It claims he voted against extending benefits to seniors and so therefore he hates seniors. The reality of the situation is there was a line item in the bill that diverted $100 million to an oil company for some kind of BS. So he voted against it.

But the commercial doesn’t talk about all that. So PolitiFact provides the service of clarifying such claims. They even rank the claims on their ‘truthometer’. This is a valuable resource that really needs more attention. Go on there and see all the half-truths and whole lies that politicians and wanna-bes from both sides of the aisle throw at each other.  I’ve linked to two examples below.
