I think luck may be a big part too- and managing your risk.  Like Peter Lynch says, the idea of a professional trader is an oxymoron.

1) I dropped out of college.
2) I trade only once per week, if that.
3) I spend maybe 10 minutes a week trading stocks.
4) I never, ever buy mutual funds because they are a rip off and perform well below the market.</description>
