"There are only two realities with Social Security, you must either increase the tax or increase the age limit to ever balance this thing again"

A couple of comments:

1) I'm 34. While SS *might* be around when I retire, I'm definitely not using SS numbers as part of any calculations related to retirement. If it's there, great. If it's not, I'm fully prepared to retire on just my pension and 401(k).

2) Several people have mentioned increasing the amount withheld for social security (OASDI), which is currently 6.2% of wages from employee and employer (12.4% total). But what about withholding more for Medicare, which is currently 1.45% of wages from employee and employer?

After all, health costs have risen faster than overall household costs - wouldn't it make sense that the OASDI : Medicare ratio would slide more toward Medicare, even taking into account the fact that the age for full SS benefits keeps rising?

I felt the same, but somehow I'm able to collect my benefits.

You may be able to collect yours.

Raising the age is necessary. But, what's more necessary is legislators with backbones. Those are in very short supply

Regards
