Thanks Kyle, I think you could go to one income if you had to. I have heard financial advice for couples with two incomes to try just living on one income for a while. This is recommended as an exercise to see if you could weather a job loss, and as a way to build savings, but it usually requires some lifestyle down-sizing on the big and small ticket items. If you do move to having a one-income family, it's important not to fall into any emotional financial traps such as thinking and acting like the money belongs to the person earning it, and remember that you are a team and it belongs to both of you. :-)

I like Lindsay's take on it. I am all for my wife making enough money that I can be a SAHD. Would be SWEET! Except for all the laundry, dishes, dirty diapers, cleaning... wait why do I want to do this again. :-)

Women who still want to have the choice can have it, when they make their marriage choice. What's good is now men also have that choice, whereas before they always had to work. Now a man can take care of the home while his wife works, and nobody cares. People in general have more freedom now to live the lives they want to live.

not quite fair. If only men could could pregnant, then everything would be fair. But alas, women's health is impacted by the ability to be pregnant more so if they actually do get pregnant.

Having choice was not only good for the woman...it also provided cushion when a family member got sick. Now everyone must work all the time, with not much to fall back on.
