dude, how about that show with the money in suitcases... don't understand the appeal there. You almost have to be brain dead to find it entertaining. Maybe it's a zombie bank?

Good intentions alone will take you nowhere. You have to take action and happen to life. "Big Win' thinking is a way of remaining unaccountable for your situation.

@rsm4lsu - Right on about Gladwell. All of his books really make you think!

@Weakonomist - If you were to remove all possibility to the big win, do you think it would change anyone's behavior?

Great post. I read often, but this is my first comment. Anyone who is interested in this topic should definitely read Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers. Turns out that all the "big wins" we love to write and think and dream about usually break down to a combination of systems, society and lots and lots of practice (10,000 hours seems to be the magic number).

You are right about people wanting the big "win", people don't want to face the fact that it takes effort for most people win. Nothing I have accomplished and been proud of was easy, it all took effort.

I am a firm believer in two mantra's:

"You Make you own Luck"
&
"Opportunity doesn't come knocking... you have to get out and find it."
