Sorry, Rob. Inventing a mythical cotton-candy past where all was altruism and goodness, and people worked just to be nice folk, and not to get paid, is not a path to get yourself respected as some sort of finance &quot;Guru&quot;, which is apparently your goal.  Try again.</description>

		<description>In the old days, people didn&#039;t do a good and honest job because they wanted to make a buck. That was a side benefit. People did a good and honest job because they held themselves to a standard that insisted that they do good and honest work.

When that goes, everything goes. Most people are not going to go to the trouble to check out this guy&#039;s reputation. And, even if they do, how do they know that it is you telling the straight story? In a world without honesty, you could be smearing him. I know that&#039;s not the case but that&#039;s only because I know you. Most of this guy&#039;s potential customers don&#039;t know you.

If we come not to value honesty, everything falls apart. If we regain an appreciation for honesty, we are in a position today to do wonderful things. We will decide which way it goes as a community of people. That&#039;s as it should be.

		<description>After hearing this, I feel lucky to have a great vet who recommended a terrific surgeon when our dog tore her ACL last year.  Our vet has a form we sign when we leave the dogs that allows them to go up to a specific dollar amount of treatment, if necessary, then they must call us if it exceeds that amount.  Thankfully we&#039;ve never run into that issue, but seems like a good solution.

I find that when people become defensive, that is a pretty good sign they know they are in the wrong.  

I wonder if vets have any responsibility that says they must release the patient file regardless of money owed.  After all, it is your information.  Just like I can&#039;t hold client tax return info if someone won&#039;t pay me (I&#039;m a CPA).</description>

But the moral prevails and is true!  Change the details from dog to washing machine, from vet to the single appliance store here in Mayberry RFD, and it&#039;s the same story.

I continue to tell our story to anyone who mentions dealing with that store.  It&#039;s like the attorney with the State Attorney General here in PA said to the appliance store owner... &quot;When a customer is satisfied they tell a couple of people.  When they are dissatisfied, they tell a couple hundred people.&quot;

I don&#039;t understand how a business can do whatever they want and charge you for it without your consent, especially after promising to contact you first. That smells awfully fishy.</description>
