Over the holidays my dad asked The Sheconomist whether or not she’d ever sit through an entire Star Wars marathon with me. And even though I’ve watched countless Lifetime movies and other films of questionable entertainment value, the answer was a big hairy “no”.

But the mentioning of Lifetime movies did get me thinking. What are the traits that make for a good Lifetime movie? I started to make a list of the most important events/storylines that most Lifetime movies have.

  • Family struggle
  • Murder
  • Dark secrets
  • Shocking revelation of the secret
  • Love triangles

Well as it turns out, Star Wars has all of this and more. So I’ve decided to sell Star Wars to you as a Lifetime movie:

A young orphan loses his aunt and uncle to a fire blaze. In his pursuit to find the murderers, he joins up with a group of rebellious people that share his radical views. He gets caught in a love triangle, only to later learn the woman is in fact his sister!

The other guy and the girl are betrayed by a friend, who then decides to help them escape their confinement. The story takes a big twist when the orphan learns the guy responsible for his aunt and uncle’s death is none other than the orphan’s FATHER. The orphan knows there is still good in him, and ultimately the father sacrifices himself to save the orphan.

Star Wars fans, sell this to your loved ones and report back on your success rate.
