"In October, the United States lost their bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics in the city of Chicago to which most residents of the windy city rejoiced."

Indeed. Even living here in Chicago, I only know one person who was seriously upset. Most of us were relieved.

I love the Olympics but I agree totally. Billions of dollars for all that equipment and facilities that really don't ever get used again doesn't really make a lot of sense. Even the jobs that are created don't stick around. Once the facilities are no longer used there is no need to maintain them. The construction jobs may turn in to destruction jobs but they still aren't going to last. At best I would hope for the Olympics in a nearby town so I can visit and get some of the economic benefits without the impending problems.

Right. I've never understood why people get so excited about this. Maybe because I'm so un-athletic....but still. It's a huge money drain. What am I missing?
