Just goes to show what they say is true - a fool and his money are soon parted. I would imagine with a good lawyer he could reach a settlement with the casinos since there are employees who could testify he was allowed to gamble while intoxicated. That doesn't excuse his actions since alcohol and gambling are a terrible combination but it should at least keep him out of jail. Makes you sick though that he blew all that money.

Great posts! I'm enjoying your articles.

This reminds me of the scene in the movie Casino, where a Japanese businessman who was referred to as a "whale" had won $2 million playing baccarat in a casino.

When the whale went to leave town with his winnings, the casino boss, played by Robert DeNiro, fabricated a story about his private plane having mechanical problems and there being no available seats on any commercial flight. So, being delayed from leaving for a day, the whale plays a few more hands at the casino tables and sure enough, he loses the $2 million he had won, plus an additional million of his own money.

Now, I realize this is a fictional movie, but wonder if this scene was based in part on a real event and just how much casinos are willing to do in order to keep you playing (and eventually losing).

He definitely deserves the Weaky award, but I'm not certain he deserves the jail time... yet. He should be reimbursed what the Casinos promised him, then pay the remaining debt, but I don't blame him for not wanting to pay when he hasn't been reimbursed.
