Bag, Borrow, and Steal is another place you can rent handbags, and purchase gently used ones.
You can also privately rent professional equipment, even things like massage chairs (the ones you see at corporate events) for your own event or fun.

Not only can you rent killer wheels like you mentioned, but you can actually rent an exotic car like a Porsche to go with them.

As long as there is either 1) enough volume, or 2) items are cost prohibitive, renting will/should be available. IN reality most companies rent a majority of there items. United Rentals is a typical example. You rent heavy machinery for the day if you are a small construction outfit or DIY'er. In fact a lot of machinery is done this way from farm and heavy equipment to winery processing equipment.

I think alot of these travel rentals will become more and more popular as airlines increase their luggage fee. Hmm, do I check a bag but have my laptop, or do I rent one for 25 bucks for a week...

Hmm - I should be able to rent a laptop then - would have been handy on a recent overseas trip. Will get around to getting one of my own soon, but should have looked into this before going.
