Hi there,

I'm sorry you had to go through all that, sounds like a huge pain. I think its awesome though that you're stressing the importance of emergency funds and applying it to real-life examples!

I work for State Farm, and often recommend that our policy holders integrate insurance considerations into their overall budget plan and emergency fund planning, especially now more than ever as the economy continues to fluctuate.

As people think about how to establish their emergency fund, we at State Farm urge our customers to incorporate the cost of potential insurance deductibles – auto, home, health, and others – in the event of a claim – as you never know when an emergency will arise.

Hope this helps folks plan when building an emergency fund - happy budgeting!

Having an emergency fund sure comes in handy when life hits your with things like this. I haven't had to tap mine yet (fingers crossed) but I love knowing that I can deal with an emergency with cash now instead of whipping out a credit card.

Awesome... I also love the feeling of having money set aside. Now when "emergencies" come along, I just bump the needed cash from savings to checking, and get on with life.

This compared to a few years ago where I lived paycheck-to-paycheck and even an unexpected charge of $50 would have sent me on a stress bender. Now I barely blink.

Great feeling.

Congratulations on surviving your move and emergency. This should remind us all to have back-up bucks.

Love this post. I like when bloggers tell stories of they are implementing what they teach. I need to do more of that.

Emergency funds take the speed bumps out of life. Figuratively and literally.

It's enormously frustrating that all that stuff happened to you, but thanks so much for sharing this story and reminding us that emergency savings are tres important.

How much would you recommend in an emergency fund?
