The "harshest critic" part is extremely important.

We all need someone who loves us enough to tell us the straight story.

This aspect of friendship and love gets overlooked too often, in my view.

Dave, thanks for sharing your story. I wish I could say the same about a recent trip to Men's Wearhouse. Each is different I suppose.

I shop at Men's Wearhouse for work type apparel sometimes and visit the same store every now and then. A few years ago, on most occasions I was greeted by the same individual and he actually remembered what my name was. Besides the name thing, I felt like I was actually a valued customer and was treated extremely well, even if I was buying just a few ties. I later wrote a letter to the owner of the store telling him how much I appreciated that level of service and the professionalism of that employee. Later on that year, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the same employee was now a store manager.

You are so right. Just one word of support or gratitude from my boss or coworker makes me want to work so much harder to keep their appreciation. I think a lot of people don't realize this. And good for you for passing it on. I'm going to do the same and show my gratitude today. Thanks!
