I'm not sure what to think of twitter. I've tried it several times, and it doesn't quite click with me. Maybe I'm not using it right - dunno. I have to admit that I have found sites and info I might not have otherwise. I'm not much of a shout out type - I like to listen. I find trying to read every profile that follows me to be too overwhelming. I follow until they turn me off somehow. This one guy spammed the same quotes every day. I just stopped following, no biggie. I'm not doing it for big numbers, but I find there's a lot of diverse info by listening to a lot of people. I just selectively tune out some.

Cathy’s last blog post..Smart Shopping: Best Clothing Value - Shoes!

Great article! I had never thought about this before, but then again I just started using Twitter a month ago. I'm glad that I am on the right track, and I'm glad that I read this article before I started following 2,000 people. Thanks.

I also keep my numbers down. Fortunately, I can handle following around 300 people by using Tweet Deck. I've got about 50 who I pay regular attention to, another 100 who come up in the "everyone" column, and another 150 don't tweet too often anyway.

I'll check out profiles, but I'm more interested in Twitter as a means of networking with other bloggers (chatting as much as business) than of creating a mass following. I can see why others use non-Troll like ways of attracting followings too.

Interesting article. I agree that it shouldn't only be about the numbers. Targeted followers are much better for entrepreneurs. According to your numbers i would be a troll. But attitude wise, I'm not. I'm going to tweet about this. I wonder what people will think.

I think that a lot of twitter trolls use guilt as an attempt to earn extra followers. They understand that by following you, you will feel the need to follow them as well.

While that might have been true during the early days of twitter, I think that there are so many spam bots and twitter trolls out there that we don't feel bad if we get a follower but don't follow back. I know that I don't.

If you follow me, I will check out your profile, but I will only follow you if I see that you have something I want to read, otherwise, why would I bother? Guilt? No thanks.
