We're not married, but I'll put in my 2c anyway. We have a shared account that we put a proportion of our money into every check. We pay rent, groceries, dining out, and other entertainment with it. Our separate accounts we do with as we please. There's really not much of a need for discussions about budgets and such - the shared account already has all that accounted for. I buy what I want, when I want it from my own account, and he does the same. The only time there might be an issue if something gets purchased on the joint account that isn't something household related, but that's never happened. We are both frugal savers, and manage our own accounts well.

We'll probably keep this arrangement if we get married. I am inclined to believe so. It works well for us, and I don't see why marriage would change that. Our joint pool would just get bigger than it is now, I imagine.

Separate all they way! My wife and I have separate accounts and love it. We get along much better because we don't fight a bout money. We each contribute evenly to a joint checking account that pays all of our mutual bills like mortgage and utilities.
Check out the link above for a more detailed explaination.

We're not married yet but we might as well be. We finally merged our money last month. We have two checking accounts the joint account and his spening money, a variation of the his/hers/ours system. Paychecks go into the joint account and then a small portion goes to Mr M's personal account. Mr M is not a good money manager but he is responsible for managing his personal spending money.
