@SJ, there is a method to the madness. I try to treat the subjects with beginner, intermediate and expert levels. For example: Weakon 205, 305, and 405 (not yet written) are beginner, intermediate, and expert level courses for mutual funds. I keep a spreadsheet of the different courses I've done and have yet to do.

Interesting little history. I had heard the arguments about the New Deal, and the comments that only World War II ended the Depression (which I hope isn't the case, as I doubt we'd make it through World War III...). I hadn't heard about gold and the influx of money, though, so that was certainly interesting to learn.

Hi Philip,

Good article on the Great Depression. It looks like our governments have learned from their previous mistakes and are presently taking the necessary steps to stop the economy collapsing as it has in the past.

I was watched a TV show the other night about the current Global Financial Crisis and they mentioned things called 'Default Credit Swaps' and 'Derivatives' and apparently these things are a major contributor to the current economic downturn. They tried to explain them but did not do a great job. You have a way of making these things easy to understand so I thought you might want to tackle these items in one of your future College of Weakonomics articles.

Cheers,
From Josh

Hrm. Question -- How do you decide which number to use lol...

I think the interesting part was the New Deal debate... I think I always took on faith that it was good (even tho WWII was needed to save us all )

So we should ... hope europe goes to war?
