Twitter is going to have to come up with some sort of a revenue model pretty soon as they can't continue down this road indefinitely. I'm sure it's going to be a combination of things including but not exclusive to paid accounts, advertising, paid business accounts, ads between tweets, and probably a ton of other things. It will be interesting to see which way they go.

One revenue model I've heard discussed for Twitter is using it as a search engine for people's thoughts and conversations. There's a lot that could be data-mined from their database of tweets. It'd be a marketing goldmine.

You should look up Colbert's interview with Biz Stone, one of the co-founders, from last week. It was ridiculously funny. To paraphrase Stone, "We differentiate between profit and value. Right now, we're just concentrating on adding value and will figure out how to make a profit later."

Twitter will make money and are working on several business models from what I have read. The first will be a subscription based fee model, probably either charging business for the use of service with additional features, and maybe users as well. They also are in the unique position where they could just sell it off.

Hunh, interesting read. Quite a variety of methods Twitter could choose to make money, I suppose it needs to actually get down to it and start profiting.

I wondered if it there was any true income stream they had developed yet. I expect we will see things like charging businesses to monitor all tweets for mention of the company, etc. I wouldn't think they would charge the general populous of twitter users though, which is good for me.
