Yes it’s true. After almost a year of writing in anonymity I’ve decided to show my face to the world.  Here’s a little bit about who The Weakonomist truly is:

First of all, my name is not Philip.  My name is Eric Stinson and I am 25.  As I’ve said many times in the past I do live in the southeast and do work for one of the largest banks in the world.  My home is in Charleston, SC and I work as an equity analyst for a subsidiary of JP Morgan Chase.  That company is called FreeRidge Capital Management and I am a Sr. Equity Analyst.  It sounds important but it’s not.  I went to the University of South Carolina for college (go Gamecocks!) where I majored in Finance at the Moore School of Business.

So aside from using a fake name, everything I’ve said about myself in the past is true.  I have a boxer, I’m marrying The Sheconomist this fall, and I do know a thing or two about money.

But why did I decide to show my face on the interwebs?  Well, Weakonomics is starting to get a little bit more popular and I really want to take credit for my hard work.  There are so many people I want to share Weakonomics with, and I want to put it on my resume.  I also think revealing the face behind the mask will make Weakonomics seem more personal.

To be perfectly frank though I am revealing my identity because I no longer work for FreeRidge.  They were offering voluntary layoffs with a handsome severance package.  I took this deal because I was planning on quitting this summer anyway.  Why? I’ll be starting business school (this is for an MBA) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.  You might have probably heard them referred to as Georgia Tech.  It isn’t Harvard, but it is one of the top business schools in the country.  It’s focus on technology was also a big draw for me.  Being free from the restrictions of working for such a large corporation I no longer feel like I have to protect myself from corporate persecution.  As I prepare for grad school this spring I will be focusing on growing Weakonomics and perhaps launching another blog that focuses on organic farming (my secret passion).

I chose to reveal myself in April because it’s the start of the second quarter of 2009.  Being a business minded person, new quarters are a new beginning of sorts.  The fact it has been just over a year since Weakonomics launched contributed to my desire to make a change.  It’s also the first day of April which means I can write an entirely made-up post with all sorts of made-up facts about me and simply end it by saying “April Fools!”
