[...] Tax Week - The Weakonomist spent an entire week covering different methods of taxation, including the income tax, the ‘Fair Tax’, and the Value Added Tax (VAT), which I’ll admit I didn’t really understand before reading this post. He also concluded that the Fair Tax (or the National Sales Tax, if we use a more descriptive name) would be the best course of action.
@My Journey,
Turbo Tax is a fantastic solution for many people, however many of the problems with our tax code aren't fixed with software. Corporate taxation is a big problem, as are the issues with estate taxes and even local taxes like property and sales. It's true many people are fine with the current system, but taxes aren't just about income.

@My Life ROI,
While I do my best to provide good research, I hope you'll correct me if I present anything that is wrong or if I leave something off. Your feedback will be appreciated by I'll try not to let you down.

I can't wait to read your fair tax assessment! It is one of the most misunderstood tax systems out there (for better AND worse).

And I do agree with My Journey, people who want to completely scrap our current tax system because it is complicated are proposing a solution akin to blowing up a house to get rid of a rodent problem. It is a system simple for many, however it could definitely be simplified!

Weakonomics,

While there are easier tax codes out there, I think for 80% (made up stat) of americans, specifically, those with a W2, one or two 1099s, and their mortgaged deduction - the tax code is SIMPLE.

I do not have a simple tax life, and thus use the expertise of a CPA, but this past weekend I did my brother's taxes and it took me all of 60 mins (granted I have a J.D. and deal with tax issues often).

In today's day and age, turbo tax makes it HARD to mess up your taxes!
