I suggest using the autoscrolling set to page mode and show around 10 lines at the time.

Nice. On the flip side, if your eyes get tired, you can always use
free text-to-speech software and have a creepy computer voice read your text :

Or for PDF files, use the Adobe Reader 9 “Read Out Loud” function. It only works on pdfs with selectable, embedded, or OCR’d text (not photos with text), so you’ll need to convert any text docs or webpages you want read, into pdf format. For that you can use free versions of PrimoPDF or CutePDF. I know…too much work.

By the way, they had the feature in Reader 7 and 8, but version 9 fixes a security flaw that can allow a hacker to remotely view and control your PC, so if you have an earlier version, upgrade to Reader v9 (it’s free).
