Super Bowl baby!  Do you know why everyone gets excited about the Super Bowl?  It isn’t the fact that it is a sports championship, neither is it about the commercials.  We (and by we I mean football fans) love the Super Bowl because it is the one time in the year that people who don’t know squat about sports will watch a game with you.  This is the perfect opportunity to try and “convert” them with your vast knowledge like: what a field goal is, or why they keep kicking the ball to each other.

My parents will watch a game when their Alma Mater is playing, but even they will sit down for a bit of Super Bowl action.  The Sheconomist is all about the “snackies” and Super Bowl Sunday is a snackers’ dream.

The reason I am most excited about this game is a guy I’d never heard of until the playoffs started.  Larry Fitzgerald.  Fitzgerald is a wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals.  He first appeared on my radar after single-handedly beating the Carolina Panthers.  Yes, he caught this!

Yes, he caught this!

What was perhaps the most amazing thing about him is his personality.  When you see a star athlete these days you normally don’t expect them to serve humble pie.  You should see ego, self-assuredness, and all around conceit (think Terrel Owens).  The man shocked me with his soft toned voice and calm appearance.  Find interview of him.

So who am I going to pull for?  Well Fitzgerald is so fantastic he deserves the MVP of the playoffs award.  If he plays that well again on Sunday he deserves Super Bowl MVP as well.  But I am geographically closer to Pittsburgh (this is a sports fan tactic I picked up from my dad: pull for the one closest to you).  This was a tough decision to make.  But I think I’ll go with the Steelers since I’ve already covered their state in my “Tour of the Country” series.  So, Go Steelers!  (But ‘Go Fitzgerald’ too).
