Usually I want my weekend editions to not have anything to do with money. Today it is. Andrew Horowitz (aka The Disciplined Investor) was presented to me by the wonderful personalities at TWiT. TWiT is my 2nd favorite podcast behind Buzz Out Loud, both are technology related. Andrew Horowitz is a money manager that wrote a book recently called The Disciplined Investor. He’s also started a podcast that Leo Laporte and John Dvorak turned me on to in a recent TWiT podcast. The Disciplined Investor (TDI) has become a web presence like The Weakonomist, only people have actually heard of TDI. Anyway, his book is now on my reading list.
While TDI focuses on active money management, a practice I don’t encourage, he is very entertaining to listen to and knows a lot about how markets work. So if you’re a passive investor and want to learn more about markets, TDI is the place to go. He made the weekend edition because of a recent podcast about, of course, oil. He brought on a professor with real world experience in the oil trade to talk about how speculators are controlling the market. Horowitz added the commentary: while many economists on Capital Hill are testifying that there is a loophole allowing manipulation of the oil markets, the media is ignoring it. Instead focusing on the tired (though partially true too) explanation of supply/demand
And there’s my big argument that again, traditional media fails the public. As a part (a small small part) of non-traditional media, I feel its my job to make this known to my readers. If just one of you sees the light that Horowitz is powering and can pass it on to someone else, I’ve done my part as a contributor to the social media. Below you will find links to Andrew Horowitz’s website, an article he wrote on this loophole, a video of the professor he interviewed testifying to the Senate Commerce Committee, and information on his podcast. Search The Disciplined Investor on the Amazon search box on this site to find his listing at Amazon.com for the book.
