Most of the visitors to this site are USA folks like myself, to you I wish the greatest of Independence Days. To my non-US readers today is a big day for us. You probably know why. I personally feel that the United States, despite its many flaws, is the best place on Earth to live. Of course I’m biased and I’ve never lived anywhere else, but I think just about everyone in the world would put us in the top 5.
Today is important to me, as a writer, because in certain countries I can’t do what I’m doing on this site. Free speech and free press are rights I’m born with in this country. There are entire website devoted to criticizing our nation’s leader, something that will get you thrown in prison in China – or worse.
With that in mind, American or not, take the time today to appreciate all the wonderful things life has given you. Just having access to the internet makes you better off than 75% of the world. You probably eat better than most of Africa, and when you’re sick theres probably a doctor near by. Go out and enjoy your neck of the woods today instead of hiding behind that LCD portal to the globe we call a computer. I’ll be at the ball park drinking beer, eating hot dogs, and watching fireworks.
