In spring of 2007, I realized the free membership to the school gym expires with my graduation in the coming months. I needed a new way to exercise. Turning to running, I found I could do it quite well and got pretty good over the summer. I ran in some short distance races, and while I wasn’t winning any medals it did feel good. This past fall I took it to the next level and trained for a half marathon. Sadly, I hurt my hip and was out of commission for a few months. I recently dusted off the running shoes and got back on the road. So far no pain and some gain. Its slow moving but exercise, in any form, is important to me.
My link for the day is active.com. I use it for all kinds of training info, but its best served as an aggregator for local events. The best way to get motivated with running is to sign up for a race. Don’t worry about finishing at an impressive time, there’s always a group of people that walk the entire race. The races are usually for a good cause, fees are tax deductible, and you can almost always score a t-shirt.
And since I like to look back at a few popular posts from this blog, I’ve got a couple links for you. Absolutely the pros and cons of universal healthcare are my recommendations this week.
On a side note, unless you use Firefox with Adblock Plus (like I do), you’ll notice a few ads on the site. Feel free to ignore them, but if you’re interested in starting an ING bank account click through the banner. My hosting service is bluehost.com, and we have a partnership now. You can find their ad on the sidebar as well. At the bottom of the site is an ad for priceline.com (love Bill Shatner) and I am also an Amazon Affiliate. Search and buy through the ad in the sidebar and I get a small percentage, the price does not change for you. As always, thanks for reading. Have a good weekend.
