Really anything inherited comes with some emotional obligation to it. It is never just money, it always represents the time, energy and emotion that someone committed to get that money. Whether it is the fine china or the life insurance, we feel the need to respect it as it represents a legacy. When my grandparents passed away, my father had a really hard time spending the money he inherited. As it was, he finally made a real estate purchase with it and the entire family sees that purchase as our grandparents legacy. It was a difficult decision, because he knew how hard they had saved over their lives.
